If a partner died, could the rest of you buy out the family?
See what each partner's share is worth, what it may cost to replace a key person, and the coverage that may be needed to fund both.
Your share: illustrative buyout value
Illustrative only, not a guarantee. Results may differ depending on your situation. Talk with your accountant before acting.
A second set of eyes
Your accountant knows your numbers. I work alongside them to compare options across several companies, so the plan fits your corporation.
How this works
- Your share is shown first: the amount your partners may need to buy out your family. The total for all partners is shown underneath. Each partner's share equals the business value times their ownership. This is the amount the other partners may need to buy out that partner's family.
- Key-person cost equals the profit at risk for the months to replace them, plus recruiting and training, plus guaranteed loans.
- The estimate adds the full buyout of every partner, since any one of you could be the one. Your shareholder agreement, how the coverage is owned and the tax treatment may change the amount, depending on your situation. Talk with your accountant and lawyer.
