A Registered Education Savings Plan (RESP) helps you save for a child's education after high school, like college, university, an apprenticeship or a trade school.
Why families use them
- Savings grow tax-sheltered inside the plan.
- The Government of Canada can add money through education savings grants and, for some lower-income families, the Canada Learning Bond.
- Some provinces have their own programs too.
Getting started
- Your child needs a Social Insurance Number.
- Open an RESP with a bank, credit union or other plan provider.
- Even small, regular amounts help, because the grants are based on what you put in.
